THROUGH SEPTEMBER 12TH...NEW YORK TIMES EXHIBIT. From the vast archives of The New York Times comes a collection of photographs chronicling over a century and a half of world history. This fascinating exhibition of black and white images captures changes in everything from fashion and finances to politics and personalities. More than 80 photos were chosen from among six million by researchers and the head of the New York Times photo archives for this extraordinary exhibit of historic moments captured by some of the world's most renowned photojournalists. THROUGH SEPTEMBER 6TH...ART OF THE LOWCOUNTRY. The Artists Showcase features a different Art League of Hilton Head artist monthly at the Gallery in Pineland Station. A reception from 5:00-7:00 pm of the opening day is an opportunity to meet the artist and find out more about the artwork. The work of numerous Art League artists is shown throughout the year. 8TH THROUGH OCTOBER 11TH...CHRIS CLAYTON: PASTELL. The Artists Showcase features a different Art League of Hilton Head artist monthly at the Gallery in Pineland Station. 8TH THROUGH 13TH...FOODFEST. The FoodFest 2008 schedule includes events transpiring at individual food establishments and at the festival's central location of Shelter Cove Community Park on Hilton Head Island. The Hilton Head Area Hospitality Association will continue its tradition in offering the Best Bartenders Drink Making Contest and The Hospitable Waiters Race, but will expand its spectator opportunities in 2008 to include the Tailgate Gourmet Challenge where local chefs and others will showcase their talent at the festival's outdoor tailgate kitchen. As well, the Association is partnering with several community organizations to deliver its food focused celebration. The Beaufort County Library will host a section of the festival titled "Cooking with Books." The Coastal Discovery Museum will offer an educational offering titled "Marshside: What's for dinner?" The South Carolina Lowcountry Projects Committee of the Junior League of Savannah will headline the youth area of the Grand Tasting Across the Park with the "Kids in the Kitchen" project. The Hilton Head Chapter of the American Institute of Wine and Food will host several wine dinners and produce the festival's end note activity at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa called "Bubbles Beach and Brunch. Whether you're a culinary connoisseur, or you simply enjoy food and fun, you will not want to miss this series of culinary activities and grand tasting event that showcases the extraordinary talent of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, South Carolina. 20TH...CELEBRATION OF LIFE. Pregnancy Center & Clinic of the Low Country sponsors an annual "Celebration of Life" fundraiser including dinner and "entertainment, with both a silent and live auction." 24TH THROUGH OCTOBER 19TH...LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. All is well for Georges and Albin, two middle-aged partners happily running a nightclub in St. Tropez where the stars and chorus line are mostly men in drag. That is, until Georges' son Jean-Michel announces he is marrying the daughter of a morals crusader obsessed with closing local "dubious" clubs. Hilarity ensues when the future in-laws insist on meeting the mismatched couple. Based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret, this Tony Award-winning musical remake features a bouncy score by Jerry Herman, the legendary composer of Mame and Hello Dolly!. Irreverent, unconventional and full of show-stopping songs and flashy production numbers, La Cage is a deliciously fun evening of theater.
