This Calendar of Events lists many of Hilton Head Island's events and activities likely to be of interest to visitors. Most events are open to the public for free or at a modest charge....except where luncheons, dinners, fees for classes and/or special programs are involved. Because scheduling and location of events and activities may change without notice, please call the telephone numbers listed for confirmation, and for additional information.

GO ON A KID-ORIENTED NATURE CRUISE.
Several boats at opposite ends of Hilton Head offer special programs to give kids a "hands-on" experience with fishing, plus a real learning experience concerning sea creatures and the environment in the Low Country. DAUFUSKIE ISLAND HERITAGE TOUR. One-hour ferry ride from Hilton Head Island to Daufuskie for a two-hour narrated historical and cultural tour of Daufuskie Island. BEACH WALK. Tuesday through Thursday, all year. Guided nature walk at low tide. Learn about our local beaches, plants & animals. Coastal Discovery Museum. ISLAND RECREATION CENTER PROGRAMS. Monday-Saturday. The Island Recreation Center offers numerous informative and fun classes for kids of all ages. Classes in arts and crafts, dance, low and high impact aerobics and jazzersize. Lessons concerning a variety of sports, plus general sport participation programs on a weekly basis. These classes and events are programed for a variety of ages and experience levels. There is an olympic size swimming pool, tennis courts, playing fields, a track, basketball courts, a soccer field, and meeting rooms for classes and programs. "Dropins" always are welcome. HILTON HEAD PUBLIC LIBRARY. The architectural award-winning Hilton Head Branch of the Beaufort County Public Library is located at 11 Beach City Rd., just off William Hilton Parkway, about two thirds of the way from Sea Pines Circle to the Bridge. Aside from usual library services, our library has a very extensive children's library and a Story Time Theatre. There also are exhibits of art by local artists. PINCKNEY ISLAND WILDLIFE REFUGE. You may either walk or bike through this lovely area. The extensive refuge (miles of paths) is located between the bridges to Hilton Head Island. There is parking near the entrance.

MUSEUM AT PARRIS ISLAND. Open seven days a week, from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm. Historical exhibits concerning Paris Island and the U.S. Military, Beaufort, Port Royal and Hilton Head Island. Also 127 types of weapons on display. No charge. Beaufort, SC. 843-228- 3765.

HERITAGE LIBRARY. The Heritage Library is located in the Courtyard Building (near Sea Pines Circle), 32 Office Park Rd., Suite 300. It is open on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Nonprofit research organization specializing in both genealogical and historical materials. ARTISTS GUILD OF BLUFFTON. Exhibit of the work of 14 Bluffton artists. 20 Calhoun Street, in the historic Planters Mercantile Building, Bluffton. About ten minutes from the Bridge. 10:00 am until 4:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. 757-5590.

ARTS CENTER OF COASTAL CAROLINA GUIDED TOURS. Free tours of the $10 million, 44,000 square-foot performing and visual arts complex. Meet at 11:00 am in the Charles and Ellen Taylor Lobby, near the box office. Every Thursday. No reservations necessary. 842-ARTS.

THE SEA PINES RESORT NATURE CENTER. Open Daily March-August, open Thursday-Monday (September -February). The Sea Pines Resort nature center is a great site for families, nature guru's, historians, avid outdoor adventurers, and animal lovers alike. The center offers an array of animals and hands on exhibits to give personal interaction with the South's finest nature treasures and examples of life. S.H.A.R.E. SENIOR CENTER. Numerous wonderful activities for senior adults (fifty-ish and over), including interesting and entertaining outings and classes. Classes in languages, art, weight and stretch, water aerobics, low impact aerobics, tap, line dancing, tai chi, writing class (your life story) and bridge. PLAYGROUNDS. Harbour Town Playground has a treehouse and footbridge, plus a lookout tower. Shelter Cove Harbour has tire swings and seesaws. The Island Recreation Center, located next to the public schools, also has an excellent playground.

AMERICAN NEEDLEPOINT GUILD. Meet fellow members of the American Needlepoint Guild. Work on different needle art projects.
